I'm changing PCs and I want to be sure that when I install Keybreeze on my new machine I will recuperate all of my commands (I have several passwords stored in them).
I guess my commands are all stored in one particular file in the program folder?Huh  If so, which one?
Or could I transfer all my keywords to my USB version?
Thanks Andrew

The question has come up a lot on this forum about how to migrate version 3.6 (the first open source version) of keybreeze from one computer to another, so you can bring over your keywords and etc to the new computer.

Sadly it appears Andrew has abandoned these support forums especially once he made the program open source.

It took me 3 hours to figure out, but here's how to migrate your keywords to a new computer.

Assuming you have version 3.6 keybreeze which is open source and free:

1. TURN ON VIEW HIDDEN FILES CUZ THE FOLDER YOU WANT IS HIDDEN. Turn it on on both your old and your new computers. To turn on 'view hidden files', in winxp go into windows explorer, tools, folder options, view tab, and mark the 'view hidden files' option. in win7, in windows explorer 'folder options' will be under the 'organize' menu.

2. on your new pc, install keybreeze 3.6. At the end of the installation, select the option  to NOT run keybreeze. (It doesnt really matter if you run it and go thru the initial configuration; it just saves time not to do so).

One note here also is that its irrelevant which folder you install keybreeze into, it wont affect where the data is stored, so just use the default installation folder.

3. Then, on your old pc, install the latest version of keybreeze if you dont already have the latest version (3.6, the open source version) installed there. If you have an older version of keybreeze, this should update your version to 3.6. This is just so that you will be thus copying data from version 3.6 on old machine to same version 3.6 on new machine. It will ensure that the new installation on the new pc will be able to read the data files without difficulty, after you copy them from the old pc.

4. Then,

If win7, go to:
C:\Users\your-user-name\AppData\Roaming\Keybreeze data

If winxp, go to:
C:\Documents and Settings\your-user-name\Application Data\Keybreeze Data

That where all  your custom data for keybreeze is located. Copy the entire contents of that folder. These are hidden data folders, which is why you had to do step 1. The data for keybreeze is thus located here, and NOT in the installation folder under program files.

5. Go to your new pc, find the same folder path. Paste in the entire contents that you copied in step 3.

6. Thats it. On your new pc, launch keybreeze and enjoy.

Note: the most important file you want to copy from the data folder in step 4 is called 'keywords'. That is what contains all your keybreeze shortcuts. Technically you could just copy that one file instead of the entire directory, but if you have other things you want (options, scripts, macros, etc) then may as well copy the entire directory.
